Regarding the flood in Lithuania – the latest message from the services: residents are being warned
Lithuanian emergency services remain on high alert as flood risks increase in certain areas of the country, prompting warnings to residents.
In Lithuania, the situation regarding flooding remains managed, although flood risks have notably increased in certain regions. According to Evaldas Tamašauskas, head of the Civil Protection Department of the Fire and Rescue Service, firefighters have been working continuously throughout the week and are prepared to respond immediately if assistance is needed further. Their efforts have included responding to resident reports, conducting surveillance of the situation, pumping water from flooded areas, and providing help where necessary.
Earlier in the week, residents in the districts of Kėdainiai and Panevėžys required assistance due to rising water levels that had flooded the basements of homes. In Bernatonių village in the Panevėžys district, water inundated residential houses and streets, prompting the emergency services to intervene. Toward the end of the week, firefighters were dispatched to Kriukai town in the Joniškis district as spring thaw led to water entering residential yards, although residents have remained calm and have not reported significant grievances.
Various regions across the country have seen firefighters deployed to flood zones, and despite the challenges posed by the weather, the local population appears to be maintaining a positive outlook. Emergency teams continue their vigilance and support activities to ensure the safety and preparedness of the communities affected by the flooding, demonstrating the local authorities' commitment to managing the situation efficiently and effectively.
