FG begins payments for 2024 capital projects

The Nigerian Federal Government has started making payments for outstanding capital projects planned for 2024.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially commenced the payment process for capital projects that were intended for the 2024 budget. This announcement was made by Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication to President Bola Tinubu, through a post on social media platform X. This move comes as part of the government's efforts to ensure that all pending capital expenditures are cleared and are part of a larger strategy to improve fiscal accountability and project execution in the country.

Furthermore, all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) have been instructed to submit their cash plans in preparation for the 2025 budget, with a deadline set for February 23, 2026. This proactive approach highlights the government's aim to streamline budget processes and ensure timely execution of future capital projects. The statement issued by Dare also emphasized the importance of clearing any outstanding financial commitments from previous administrations, which has been a longstanding issue impacting the continuity of government projects.

The Nigerian government aims to fully implement the capital components of both the 2024 and 2025 budgets by the end of March 2026. This includes not only addressing the outstanding payments from 2024 but also preparing for the upcoming budget cycle to facilitate smoother operations in fiscal governance. The successful realization of these objectives could significantly impact economic development and public trust in governmental financial management, paving the way for enhanced infrastructure and other public services in Nigeria.
