Osun rejects N13bn payroll fraud claim, accuses consultant of inflating figures

The Osun State Government has dismissed claims of a N13 billion payroll fraud and accused the auditing firm of inflating figures to benefit financially.

The Osun State Government has firmly rejected allegations made by Sally Tibbot Limited regarding a purported N13 billion payroll fraud. The state government accused the auditing firm of falsely labeling 15,000 government employees and retirees as 'ghost workers' to secure a commission of N2 billion. The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, asserted that a verification process of the audit revealed that the majority of those identified as ghost workers are in fact legitimate staff members with proper identification and documentation.

In a statement issued from the capital, Osogbo, Alimi countered claims made by the Chief Executive Officer of Sally Tibbot, Sa'adat Bakrin-Ottun, who alleged that the current administration under Governor Adeleke was neglecting to act on the audit findings, which purportedly uncovered extensive payroll fraud. The government maintains that it has thoroughly evaluated the consultant's report and everything contrary to their findings has been dismissed as unfounded and misleading.

The dispute between the Osun State Government and Sally Tibbot has broader implications for public sector integrity in Nigeria, particularly in the area of payroll management and financial accountability. As allegations of corruption and mismanagement continue to surface in various states, the resolution of this conflict may establish a precedent for how such matters are addressed and could influence public trust in government operations across the country.
