The Spire is Up on the World's Tallest Church
The highest spire of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona has been installed, making it the tallest church in the world.
On February 20, 2026, the final spire of the Sagrada Familia, designed by the renowned architect Antoni Gaudí, was installed, bringing its height to 172.5 meters. This achievement comes 144 years after the construction began and has made the Sagrada Familia officially the tallest church in the world, surpassing Ulm Minster in Germany by one meter. This historical moment attracted numerous visitors to Barcelona, eager to witness the completion of this iconic structure.
Antoni Gaudí, who passed away in 1926, did not anticipate seeing the completion of his magnum opus. At his death, only one tower was finished, and the ambition was to complete the entire church by 2026, marking a century since his death. Even though the spire has been added, reports indicate that several more years of work are required before the church will be fully finished, highlighting the ongoing legacy of Gaudí's intricate design and its evolving landscape.
