New law expands free access to sports events for children up to 12 years old in Pernambuco

A new law in Pernambuco allows children up to 12 years old to enter sports events for free when accompanied by an adult.

The Pernambuco Legislative Assembly has promulgated a new law that grants free access to sports events for children aged up to 12 years old throughout the state. This law applies to all sports events organized by public or private entities that receive government sponsorship. To enter venues, children must be accompanied by an adult guardian, and proof of age may need to be presented, such as a birth certificate or identification card.

Previously, since 2011, the law permitted free entry only for children up to 7 years old, which was established by a bill from then-State Deputy Daniel Coelho, who is currently the State Secretary of the Environment. The new legislation, proposed by Deputy João Paulo Costa, significantly expands accessibility for families, allowing older children to enjoy sporting events without the burden of entry fees.

This legislative change reflects a growing emphasis on promoting children's engagement in sports and recreational activities in Pernambuco. By reducing financial barriers to attending sports events, the law is expected to foster community ties and encourage a healthy lifestyle among children and their families. However, enforcement of the law and the stipulations regarding adult supervision will be crucial for its effective implementation.
