In a shocking incident captured by a security camera, a man was seen setting fire to bags under which a homeless woman was sleeping in the Grajaú neighborhood of São Paulo on Thursday morning. This event occurred around 5:34 AM, near a pet food store located on Major Lúcio Dias Ramos street. The footage reveals the suspect approaching the sleeping woman and igniting the material presumably with a lighter, before fleeing the scene.

Approximately two minutes later, the woman awoke to the flames and managed to extinguish the fire by filling a bucket with water from a nearby tap. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries associated with this incident. The local authorities, specifically the Secretariat of Public Security, stated that there has not yet been a record of a police report filed regarding the events, but the Civil Police are actively reviewing the footage in an effort to identify both the victim and the perpetrator.

This incident highlights the ongoing issues of violence against vulnerable populations, especially those experiencing homelessness. The action of the individual not only poses a severe threat to the woman’s life but reflects a broader societal issue concerning the treatment of homeless individuals in urban environments. As police work to investigate this matter, it raises questions about safety and support for those living on the streets of São Paulo, stressing the need for comprehensive civic response and protective measures for the most at-risk communities.
