Responsible Summer: Participate in the 27th edition of Praia Limpa on the sands of Recife
The 27th edition of Praia Limpa has officially commenced in Recife, promoting responsible waste disposal at local beaches with the distribution of paper bags for waste collection.
The Praia Limpa initiative in Recife, which has been running for nearly three decades, kicked off its 27th edition on February 5th, 2023, despite overcast skies. With the involvement of 50 monitors, the program aims to distribute up to 180,000 paper bags for the proper disposal of trash along the beaches of Boa Viagem, Pina, and Brasília Teimosa. This environmental project seeks to engage the local community, public authorities, and partners in maintaining the cleanliness of Recife's shoreline.
The opening event was attended by Recife's mayor, João Campos, who took the opportunity to interact with residents and beachgoers, emphasizing the strong collaboration between the Recife government and Globo. This partnership is integral to facilitating the Praia Limpa activities, which will continue until March 29th. The initiative not only highlights environmental responsibility but also aims to foster a sense of community and awareness among locals and visitors about the importance of keeping their beaches clean.
The Praia Limpa event has become a staple of the summer season in Recife, attracting media attention, local vendors, and numerous participants. It demonstrates the collective effort required to maintain the beauty of the city's beaches while encouraging sustainable practices among the public. As such, the initiative stands as a model for similar environmental efforts in coastal areas throughout Brazil.
