VNĪ offers to purchase the SAB building in Jūrmala; starting price also announced
The Latvian government has set a starting auction price of €785,000 for the State Security Department (SAB) property in Jūrmala, with the auction closing on March 23.
The State Real Estate Agency (VNĪ) in Latvia has announced an auction for a property owned by the State Security Department (SAB) located on Lielupe Street in Jūrmala. The starting bid is set at €785,000, which the agency revealed through a statement to the LETA. Interested bidders can submit their applications until March 12, while the auction itself is scheduled to conclude on March 23. The property consists of a land plot of 3,801 square meters, an administrative building of 2,631 square meters, and a garage spanning 244 square meters.
The decision to sell the SAB property was approved by the government in November 2025, following SAB's indication that the property is no longer essential for its operations. This divestment comes in light of ongoing evaluations of state properties and their utility, as the SAB emphasized that the building is not needed to fulfill the functions of the justice sector. The fiscal cadastral value of the property as of January 1, 2025, was recorded at €776,296, while the universal cadastral value stood significantly higher at €2,279,626, suggesting that the auction may draw interest beyond the starting bid.
Upon the completion of the auction, the government has mandated that the property must be handed over to the buyer within 30 days of signing the purchase agreement. This move reflects ongoing governance strategies in Latvia aimed at optimizing state property management and ensuring that properties not in use by state agencies are offered to private buyers, enabling better fiscal management and potentially generating revenue for the state.
