Warning to Residents: Fraudsters Posing as Medical Workers Are Traveling Through Villages

The Lithuanian ministry has issued a warning about fraudsters posing as medical workers to collect personal information from residents in villages.

The Lithuanian Ministry of Health has alerted residents to the presence of fraudsters posing as medical workers traveling through various villages. These scammers introduce themselves as healthcare professionals and offer services such as registering for doctor appointments, checking health, or updating personal information. The ministry emphasized the importance of vigilance, noting that these individuals might be collecting personal data for potential criminal activities. It reassured the public that genuine healthcare workers do not visit homes without pre-arranged official visits and do not collect personal data such as copies of documents or sensitive banking information from residents at their homes.

Further incidents reported include scammers suggesting residents invest in gold and transfer it to strangers or encouraging them to withdraw money from banks to hand over to arriving couriers. The ministry strongly advises residents to be cautious and not to let suspicious individuals into their homes. Instead, they are encouraged to contact local authorities immediately by calling 112 if they encounter anyone suspicious. This situation underscores the ongoing issue of fraud and the need for public awareness regarding the tactics employed by scammers, particularly during times when people may be more vulnerable.

This warning reflects concerns over the growing trend of impersonation scams, highlighting how fraudsters exploit the trust of community members. Residents are reminded to be skeptical of unsolicited visits and to prioritize verifying identities before sharing any personal information. The ministry's proactive approach aims to protect citizens and prevent the potential exploitation of their personal data by these con artists.
