Testimony on the Investigation of the Light Vehicle in the Murder Case of the President of Osho

A police officer testified in the trial of the alleged murderer of Osho president Takayuki Daito, discussing the investigation of a light vehicle involved in the crime.

The trial of 59-year-old Yukio Tanaka, accused of murdering 72-year-old Takayuki Daito, the former president of Osho Food Services, continued on 20th with testimony from a police officer regarding a light vehicle linked to the murder. Tanaka allegedly shot Daito in front of the company headquarters on December 19, 2013, and has maintained a plea of not guilty. The prosecution believes the light vehicle in question was borrowed from a childhood friend of Tanaka's, who is linked to organized crime in Fukuoka, based on surveillance footage that captured a scooter and the vehicle leaving the scene of a theft from a restaurant in Kyoto in October of the same year.

During the proceedings, the police officer explained that they narrowed down the search to about 40 vehicles with similar exteriors across Kyoto and Fukuoka. The decision to focus on Fukuoka was made due to the presence of individuals with past issues involving Osho Food Services in the region. When probed about the possibility of investigating vehicles in other areas, the officer maintained that the focus was a result of informed judgment during the investigation. The trial is set to continue with witness examinations until March 23, with closing arguments scheduled for June 29 and a verdict expected by October 16.
