Merging Several Schools in the Ogre Region

The Ogre municipality is set to merge three schools into a new educational institution named Madliena Regional Secondary School to ensure sustainable and quality education.

In a decision made on November 27, 2025, the Ogre municipality's council agreed to merge Madliena Secondary School, Ķeipene Primary School, and Taurupe Primary School into a single secondary educational institution. This initiative aims to provide sustainable, high-quality, and accessible education in the Upper Ogre area. The new institution is expected to start operations on July 1 of this year, retaining all existing locations for the implementation of educational programs.

The name for the newly formed secondary school, Madliena Regional Secondary School, is set to be discussed at the municipality council meeting on February 26. The naming process involved multiple stages of organization, where the community, including students, parents, and staff from educational establishments, participated in the discussions. An electronic survey held in January allowed respondents to evaluate proposed names and offer their suggestions for the new school’s designation.

This consolidation of schools is a strategic move by the municipality to enhance educational services and align resources effectively. By bringing these educational institutions together, the local government aims to create a more robust and efficient educational framework that caters to the needs of the community, ensuring that students receive quality education despite a possibly declining number of enrollees in the future due to demographic changes in the region.
