Turkey announces readiness to send troops to Gaza Strip

Turkey has expressed its intent to send soldiers as part of an international stabilization force to Gaza, emphasizing its commitment to regional security.

The Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, announced the country's willingness to send troops to the Gaza Strip as part of an international stabilization force, underlining Ankara's straightforward political will to support the security and stability of the region. This announcement was made following his participation in the inaugural meeting of the "Peace Council," which he described as crucial for the reconstruction of Gaza and the activation of local governance structures.

Fidan emphasized that Turkey is prepared to provide comprehensive support, including humanitarian aid, management of the sector, and military and security contributions. The Turkish minister also disclosed plans for Ankara to train a 'local police force' that will be established in Gaza to ensure internal security. He noted that this capacity-building process would start soon to empower local authorities to deliver essential services to the population.

Despite the diplomatic discussions taking place in Washington, Fidan did not shy away from mentioning the grim situation on the ground, describing the humanitarian conditions in Gaza as still 'fragile'. This acknowledgment pointed to ongoing violations and challenges that need to be addressed, hinting at the complicated dynamics at play even amidst efforts to stabilize the region.
