‘May Shivpal’s curse not affect the Leader of Opposition’, says CM Yogi in UP Assembly
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath discussed the 2026-27 budget in the UP Assembly, highlighting fiscal improvements and making jabs at opposition leader Mata Prasad Pandey.
In a session discussing the 2026-27 budget in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath declared the budget to be historic, marking the first time a Chief Minister has presented the budget for the tenth time in the state's history. He revealed that all departments would present their new action plans before March 31. Yogi shared statistics showing a reduction in the fiscal deficit, which was over 4% in 2016-17 and has decreased to around 2% now, indicating improved financial health in the state.
During the discussion, CM Yogi humorously targeted opposition leader Mata Prasad Pandey and remarked on Shivpal Yadav, saying he hopes that Shivpal's curse does not affect the Leader of Opposition, joking about Shivpal's influence during the opposition's leadership. The light-hearted comments aimed to undermine the credibility of the opposition and suggest that the present leadership is struggling under the weight of past influences. His remarks reflect a continued rivalry and attempt to assert dominance over the political narrative within the state.
Yogi's comments and the budget discussion come at a time when financial management is a crucial topic in Uttar Pradesh. The improvements in fiscal deficit are significant as they indicate better governance and economic stability, which the ruling party would likely use to strengthen its position ahead of upcoming elections. By making jokes about the opposition, Yogi also aims to energize his party members and diminish the opposition's standing in the eyes of the public.
