Entry to Latvia has been denied to three foreign nationals from Moldova, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan due to security concerns, as reported by the State Border Guard.
On Thursday, Latvian authorities denied entry to three foreign nationals for security reasons, specifically targeting one citizen each from Moldova, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan, as announced by the State Border Guard. This action illustrates the heightened vigilance by Latvian officials in managing immigration and national security.
Additionally, the report noted that there were no attempts to illegally cross the Latvia-Belarus border on that same day, with a total of only two incidences of illegal crossings reported this year. The Latvian government has previously extended the enhanced border security measures along the Belarus border until June 30 of this year, motivated by an increase in illegal migrant flows attributed to Belarus. Specific regions including Ludza, KrΔslava, and Daugavpils have been identified for intensified monitoring.
In the previous year, the State Border Guard successfully prevented over 12,000 attempts to illegally cross the Latvia-Belarus border, with exceptions made for 31 individuals on humanitarian grounds, allowing them to cross in light of their circumstances. This year, as of now, 5,388 attempts have been thwarted, highlighting the ongoing challenges that Latvia faces regarding border security and illegal migration, and its proactive measures to maintain national safety.
