Proposing a toll of 495 kronur for the new Ölfusá Bridge
It is proposed that a single toll of 495 kronur be charged for crossing the new Ölfusá Bridge, set to open in October 2028.
A report from Vegagerðin suggests a toll of 495 kronur for the new Ölfusá Bridge, which is expected to open in October 2028. The construction of the bridge's steel structure is currently underway in Poland, with the first of three shipments expected to arrive in March. This toll proposal is based on the structures and pricing previously established for the Hvalfjörður and Vaðlaheiði tunnels, where discounts for smaller vehicles will also apply, starting at 250 kronur per crossing.
The report highlights that the older Ölfusá Bridge had an average traffic of 14,500 vehicles per day in 2023. Despite the introduction of the toll on the new bridge, it is anticipated that approximately 60 percent of road users will continue to use the old bridge, while 40 percent will opt for the new one. This split in usage reflects broader considerations about traffic management and infrastructure use in the region.
Overall, the proposed toll aims to mirror existing toll systems while addressing financial aspects related to the new infrastructure. As the project progresses, monitoring road usage patterns will be crucial to gauge the impact of the toll on traffic behavior and revenue generation for maintenance and future projects.
