Imran Was Offered 'Deal' Twice, Then Things Went Awry, Close Aide of Shehbaz Reveals

A close aide of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has revealed that former Prime Minister Imran Khan was offered a deal twice while imprisoned, but negotiations broke down on both occasions.

In the current political climate of Pakistan, the notion of a 'deal' has resurfaced, particularly concerning former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is currently in prison. Rana Sanaullah, a close ally of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, disclosed during a television talk show in Lahore that there were two serious attempts to negotiate a deal with Khan. The first attempt was made before November 26, 2024, involving key figures such as Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and the then Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur. The second attempt was initiated recently by individuals from abroad, indicating that international interests may also be entangled in Pakistan's political machinations.

Sanaullah noted that while Imran Khan initially showed willingness to discuss the proposed deal, he eventually backtracked, demonstrating a complex political maneuvering on his part. According to Sanaullah, Khan aims to find a political solution but seems unwilling to make concessions, which complicates the situation further. The aide emphasized that Khan appears focused on ousting the current government to reclaim power, highlighting the ongoing tensions in Pakistan's political landscape and the struggles between different factions.

In response to Sanaullah's statements, officials within the government have issued clarifications, which suggests that the situation remains fluid and contentious. The conflicting narratives from government officials and Khan's supporters indicate a significant polarization in Pakistan's politics, where accusations and political strategies play a crucial role in shaping public perception and policy discussions.
