'People from abroad came with Imran...', claims close aide of Shehbaz

A close aide of Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif claimed that former Prime Minister Imran Khan was offered a deal to secure his release from prison, which he initially agreed to but later withdrew from.

In a recent statement, Rana Sanaullah, a close adviser to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, revealed that former Prime Minister Imran Khan was presented with two offers of a deal while imprisoned. According to Sanaullah, both attempts to negotiate a deal were made before Khan's refusal. The first attempt was reportedly made before November 26, 2024, while the second offer was purportedly initiated by individuals from abroad.

Sanaullah elaborated that there was initial agreement from Khan's side to engage in negotiations but he ultimately retracted his acceptance of the deal. This revelation raises important questions regarding the nature of the proposed deals, to which the government has not disclosed any specific details. By highlighting these attempts, the Sharif administration underlines its willingness to find a political resolution to the ongoing conflict, though Khan's apparent resistance complicates the outlook.

The political landscape in Pakistan remains tense, as Khan's political party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), faces significant challenges amidst ongoing legal issues. Sanaullah's statements reflect the government's strategy to navigate the political impasse concerning Khan, signaling that the door for dialogue remains open, albeit with considerable hurdles still to overcome in resolving the issues between Khan and the current leadership.
