61-Year-Old Arrested: 'I Wanted to Kill Someone' - Three Stabbed at Fukuoka Library, No Prior Acquaintance
A 61-year-old unemployed man was arrested for attempted murder after stabbing three people at a Fukuoka library, claiming he wanted to kill someone despite having no prior connection with the victims.
On the night of the 19th, an alarming incident took place at the Fukuoka City General Library where three individuals were stabbed in the abdomen, leading to serious injuries. The suspect, 61-year-old Tatsuji Yoshii, was arrested on charges of attempted murder shortly after the attack. According to investigators, Yoshii expressed a desire to kill, stating, 'I wanted to kill someone.' Importantly, he had no prior acquaintance with any of the victims involved in the attack, raising questions about his motivations.
The Fukuoka Prefectural Police reported that the incident unfolded around 7:50 PM, when emergency services were alerted about a stabbing in progress. The victims included two elderly men and a 50-year-old woman, who were all transported to hospitals with stab wounds but were reported to be stable and conscious afterward. Yoshii allegedly targeted the victims indiscriminately, with one of them being a female library patron and another a security guard who intervened during the attack, ultimately restraining Yoshii until the police arrived.
Authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, as Yoshii's actions appear to be premeditated given his admissions of wanting to kill. The police have confirmed that he immediately acknowledged his involvement when confronted, stating 'There is no mistake that I did this.' The case highlights serious issues related to public safety and raises concerns about mental health factors underlying such violent impulses, especially in older individuals.
