Joint action catches irregular disposal of grease and garbage, in Búzios and Arraial
A joint task force uncovered significant illegal disposal of waste in Búzios and Arraial, prompting inspections and corrective measures for proper waste management.
In a coordinated effort at the beginning of the year, Prolagos and the municipalities of Armação dos Búzios and Arraial do Cabo conducted technical inspections that revealed blockages in the sewage and drainage systems. These locations are served by a dedicated sewage network operated by the concessionaire, and those responsible for the irregularities will be instructed on the proper disposal of waste and the necessity of connecting to the system. During the inspections, teams discovered a range of materials, from personal debris and commercial packaging to large plates of solidified grease.
In Búzios, Prolagos collaborated with the Municipal Secretary of Drainage and Sanitation at strategic points, such as the intersection of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo streets, situated by Geribá Lagoon. At this site, which has a dedicated sewage network, the use of a suction truck (vacol) was required to address the issues. The discovery of such waste not only illustrates the challenges in waste management but also highlights the importance of community education and compliance with local environmental regulations.
The findings from this operation underscore the ongoing issues relating to waste disposal in urban areas of Brazil, where improper disposal practices continue to harm the environment and public health. The responsible authorities hope that by providing guidance and enforcing connections to the sewage system, they can mitigate these issues and promote a cleaner, healthier community in both Búzios and Arraial do Cabo.
