The São Paulo Public Prosecutor's Office (MP-SP) is currently investigating fraud allegations related to contracts for rural roadworks that were established during the administration of former governor Rodrigo Garcia. These investigations have now reached the South Zone of São Paulo, specifically focusing on contracts that include repairs on rural roads, which are under scrutiny for irregularities. Although the majority of the projects being examined are located in the interior of the state, the MP has confirmed that there are also contracts within the capital, particularly the roadworks on Estrada do Gramado in Parelheiros, a region in the southernmost part of the city.

The investigations reveal that the recovery of this road is part of a broader analysis encompassing over 350 projects under the Department of Agriculture, all of which are being scrutinized for potential irregularities linked to the Melhor Caminho program, aimed at restoring rural roads. The contracts in question were signed in 2022, during the final year of Garcia's term, raising concerns about the management of public funds and adherence to proper bidding and procurement processes.

Rodrigo Garcia served as the governor of São Paulo from April 2022 until December 2022 after taking over from João Doria, who resigned to pursue a presidential bid. Garcia maintained his position until the end of his term, when he was succeeded by Tarcísio de Freitas.
