Acting governor classifies corruption scheme in SP Civil Police as 'isolated'
The acting governor of São Paulo described a corruption scheme involving Civil Police as isolated during a press conference in Bauru, following a federal investigation into the matter.
During a meeting in Bauru, São Paulo, on Thursday, Acting Governor Felicio Ramuth addressed the ongoing investigations carried out by the Federal Police, Public Ministry, and the Internal Affairs of the Civil Police. He commented on the uncovering of a corruption scheme involving Civil Police officers who were allegedly charging bribes to drop investigations related to corruption and money laundering crimes. Ramuth emphasized that the amount in question could total up to R$ 33 million, indicating the severity of the allegations.
Ramuth labeled the issues as 'isolated,' asserting that they do not suggest widespread corruption within the Civil Police but rather involve only a small group of four officers. He reiterated the commitment of the state government to ensure appropriate action is taken against these individuals, highlighting the collaborative efforts between various authorities including the Internal Affairs of the Civil Police and the Public Ministry to address the situation.
As the investigation continues, Ramuth assured the public that the measures taken by the state government would be severe and reflective of the seriousness of the crimes committed by these officers. This incident raises significant concerns about integrity within law enforcement and the mechanisms for oversight and accountability within the Civil Police of São Paulo.
