Burglary at a jewelry store in Moema may have caused losses of up to R$ 4 million, police estimate

A burglary at a jewelry store in Moema, São Paulo, involved at least eight criminals and reportedly resulted in losses estimated at up to R$ 4 million.

In the early hours of Monday, a jewelry store in Moema, located in the southern zone of São Paulo, was targeted by a group of at least eight criminals. According to law enforcement, the total worth of the stolen jewelry could reach an estimated R$ 4 million. The gang initially attempted to break into the store's safe but was unsuccessful; instead, they opted to steal the safe itself, which weighs around 400 kilograms. Security cameras captured footage of one of the suspects wearing a mask and the vehicle used in the crime.

Police delegate Deglayr Barcellos provided insights into the heist, stating that it appeared to be premeditated. The gang had planned the operation carefully and even took steps to disrupt the security cameras, indicating a level of sophistication in their approach. The initial goal was to gain access to the contents of the safe directly, but when that proved unfeasible, the group chose to move the entire safe.

The high estimated losses from this burglary have raised concerns regarding security measures in the area, as such an audacious crime highlights vulnerabilities that could threaten businesses and residents alike. Authorities are continuing their investigation, gathering evidence, and working to identify the suspects involved in this elaborate heist.
