Stolen ambulance allegedly driven into Idaho DHS office building in attempted arson attack
A suspect allegedly stole an ambulance and attempted to set fire to a Department of Homeland Security office in Idaho, but fled before igniting the accelerant.
In Idaho, state and federal authorities are investigating an incident involving the theft of an ambulance that was allegedly used in an attempted arson attack on a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) office building. The incident occurred late on Wednesday night when a suspect stole an ambulance from St. Luke's West hospital. It was reported that prior to the attack, the suspect retrieved gas cans that were hidden in nearby vegetation, indicating premeditation.
The suspect drove the stolen ambulance directly into the North Portico building, which serves as the DHS office. Meridian Police Chief Tracy Basterrechea provided details on how the suspect poured an accelerant both inside the ambulance and around the building, which raised concerns about the severity of the threat. Fortunately, the suspect was unable to ignite the accelerant, as they were interrupted by responding agencies who arrived at the scene before any harm could be done.
This alarming attempt on a federal building raises questions about security measures at such facilities as well as the motives behind the attack. Investigators are focusing on the suspect's identity and possible motivations, with community safety being a priority as authorities seek to uncover whether this act was part of a larger threat against federal establishments.
