Estonian medal hope Sildaru fails to qualify in the Olympics
Kellia Sildaru, Estonia's sole medalist from the Beijing Olympics, failed to qualify in the freestyle skiing ramp competition in Livigno.
Kellia Sildaru, who made history as Estonia's only medalist at the Beijing Olympics four years ago, unfortunately did not succeed in the qualification round for the freestyle skiing ramp competition in Livigno. Competing against 21 athletes for 12 spots in the finals, Sildaru finished just shy of qualifying, securing the 13th position — one point away from the necessary qualification barrier. Another Estonian participant, Greta Mia Mėntalo, also competed but finished 17th in the same event.
At just 19 years old in Beijing, Sildaru claimed a bronze medal in slopestyle, placed fourth in the ramp event, and finished 17th in the 'Big Air' competition. These Olympic Games saw her participating in only one event due to a series of injuries she has been battling in recent years. Known as a six-time champion of extreme sports competitions, Sildaru's recent challenges raise concerns about her performance, especially as she sought to regain her form for the Winter Olympics.
The Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo continue until February 22nd, where her younger brother Henry Sildaru will also be competing, having placed in the 30s in both slopestyle and 'Big Air'. The anticipation around the Sildaru siblings continues, following their previous successes and the hope of a brighter outcome for Henry after Kellia's unfortunate result in the qualification round.
