Bar owner investigated for killing young man after fight over arcade token is arrested in Curitiba
Moacir Rossi de Godoy, the owner of a bar in Curitiba, was arrested after confessing to the murder of a young man following a dispute over a five-real arcade token.
Moacir Rossi de Godoy, a bar owner in Curitiba, was arrested on Thursday, October 19, after presenting himself to authorities. He was wanted for the murder of 25-year-old Hiago Martins Pinheiro, also known as Jago, which occurred during an altercation over a five-real arcade token at his establishment. The incident took place on the night of October 12, leading to a significant police investigation.
Following the investigation, the Civil Police identified Rossi as the prime suspect and requested a preventive arrest order, which was granted by the judiciary. On October 18, the police released a notice and photo of Rossi, appealing to the public for information regarding his whereabouts. The release of the details helped prompt Rossi to turn himself in to the police, where he subsequently confessed to the murder.
This case raises broader concerns around public safety in nightlife areas, as it stems from what appears to be a trivial dispute escalating into violence. Moreover, Rossi's prior criminal history, which includes drug trafficking and bodily harm, underscores issues related to recidivism and the effectiveness of the justice system in preventing violent crime. As the investigation continues, it highlights the need for increased scrutiny in establishments serving alcohol and managing patrons' conduct during altercations.
