In a tragic incident on Wednesday, two 27-year-old women identified as Daniela Cardim Santos and Kaline Santos de Souza were killed after being hit by a pickup truck on BR-101 in Itamarati, Ibirapitanga. The women were friends and were out for a walk when the accident occurred, resulting in their deaths at the scene. A third woman, who was also struck, sustained only minor injuries and has since been discharged from the hospital.

Following the incident, the pickup truck involved was found abandoned a few kilometers away from the accident site, raising questions about the driver’s whereabouts. Evidence collected at the scene confirmed that a piece of the vehicle belonged to the abandoned truck. This situation highlights the ongoing concerns regarding road safety, particularly in areas frequented by pedestrians.

Local authorities, alongside the TV Santa Cruz affiliate of TV Bahia, reported on the incident, which has shocked the community. With rising traffic-related incidents, there is an increasing call for improved safety measures to protect pedestrians in regions such as southern Bahia.
