Tartu University held a party in the second quarter and reached the cup final
Tartu University defeated TalTech/ALEXELA 80:70 to advance to the Estonian basketball cup final.
On Thursday, the second finalist in the Estonian basketball cup competition was revealed when Tartu University Maks & Moorits overcame TalTech/ALEXELA with a score of 80:70. The home team's defense faltered at the beginning, allowing TalTech to take an early lead of 17:3 within the first three minutes, and they later led 25:11 at the end of the first quarter. However, Tartu University made a remarkable comeback in the second period, outscoring TalTech 28:8, and returned from halftime with a strong lead of 53:38.
Despite initially trailing by as many as 16 points, TalTech managed to narrow the gap to seven at the start of the decisive quarter, but Tartu maintained their advantage throughout the game. Malcolm Bernard was the standout player for Tartu, contributing 21 points and nine rebounds, while Dylan Painter added 12 points to the scoreboard. On the other hand, TalTech's captain, Oliver Metsalu, managed to score 14 points despite his team's struggles, which were exacerbated by having only seven players available for the match.
With this victory, Tartu University has secured a spot in the final, which is scheduled to take place at Unibet Arena on February 21.
