US general reveals make-up of Gaza peacekeeping force
A US general announced the composition and mission of an upcoming peacekeeping force planned for Gaza, aiming to stabilize the region and aid in rebuilding efforts.
During the first ‘Board of Peace’ meeting held in Washington, Major-General Jasper Jeffers outlined the structure and deployment strategy of a new International Stabilization Force (ISF) for Gaza. This initiative includes contributions from nations such as Indonesia, Morocco, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, and Albania, who are ready to send troops to aid in peacekeeping efforts. Initial deployment will focus on the Rafah sector, with the program extending to the training of Palestinian police and a goal of establishing a robust security presence in the region.
In addition to military initiatives, the meeting highlighted significant reconstruction plans for Gaza, notably the construction of 100,000 homes in Rafah to accommodate 500,000 residents, as pledged by Marc Rowan, the CEO of Apollo Global Management. This initial rebuilding effort is part of a larger vision that includes the eventual construction of 400,000 additional homes across Gaza, facilitating the return and stability of displaced residents and contributing to long-term recovery objectives.
The announcement comes at a time when global diplomatic efforts are intensifying to restore peace in Gaza amid ongoing conflict. Approximately 26 countries have reportedly declared their support and formal involvement in the Board of Peace, signaling a collaborative international approach to resolving longstanding issues and addressing humanitarian needs in the region, thus underpinning the importance of multinational cooperation in such crisis situations.
