The Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC) has announced the results of the single call for the Student Financing Fund (Fies) for the first semester of 2026. This program provides interest-free financing to students from families earning up to three minimum wages per person, easing their pathway to higher education. Once students complete their courses, they begin repaying the financed amount with installment payments adjusted according to their income.

Students can check the results of their pre-selection by accessing the Unified Access Portal for Higher Education and logging in with their gov.br account. Those who have been pre-selected will need to complete their personal information from Friday, February 20, to Tuesday, February 24. Students who were not approved in this call will automatically be placed on a waiting list, with convocations set to occur between February 26 and April 10.

According to MEC, the first semester of 2026 saw a total of 528,175 applications for the Fies program, with 210,108 students receiving approval. This demonstrates a significant interest in educational financing as Brazil continues to seek ways to support students financially amid the challenges of accessing higher education in the country.
