The 2026 Olinda carnival was a significant event, gathering approximately 4 million participants and generating a remarkable R$ 1.5 billion solely from PIX transactions, as reported by the local government. The carnival, themed 'Everyone is Here', took place across nine official venues and required extensive planning involving various sectors, including security, health, mobility, and urban cleaning.
Most attendees were from Pernambuco, while tourists predominantly traveled from neighboring states such as Paraíba, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Rio Grande do Norte. The event also attracted international visitors from countries including Cuba, Argentina, Spain, Portugal, and the United States, highlighting Olinda's appeal as a cultural destination. The mayor emphasized the carnival's significance not just as a local festivity but as an event that fosters tourism and economic activity in the region.
Culturally, the carnival featured around 200 attractions across the official venues, with over 350 orchestras contracted for performances. Additionally, more than 400 groups, including itinerant bands, contributed to the celebration in the Historic Site and various neighborhoods. To ensure safety, the city deployed more than 7,000 agents, including nearly 5,800 military police, reflecting the importance of maintaining order during such a large-scale event.
