Piauí recorded 235 thefts and 99 robberies during Carnival, says SSP

During Carnival, Piauí recorded a total of 235 thefts and 99 robberies, according to the state's Public Security Secretariat.

The Public Security Secretariat of Piauí released crime statistics for the Carnival period, indicating that from February 13 to 18, the state experienced 235 thefts and 99 robberies. Despite these incidents, there was a notable decrease in other crime categories compared to the previous year, particularly in traffic fatalities, sexual crimes, and assaults, highlighting a positive trend in overall public safety during this festive period.

Among the robberies, those involving firearms decreased significantly from 94 cases to 38, indicating an effective response to gun-related crime. Additionally, the report revealed that during the year 2026, there were over 100 complaints regarding cellphone thefts and 64 related to vehicle hijackings. In light of these statistics, the authorities assert that a combination of strategic planning, cooperation, and sustained public policy efforts aimed at tackling crime have successfully enhanced safety during Carnival events.

Delegado Matheus Zanatta, the superintendent of Integrated Operations, emphasized the importance of these results in ensuring that the population can enjoy events like Carnival with peace of mind. The ongoing efforts to combat robbery and cellphone theft reflect a broader commitment to public safety, particularly in high-risk situations such as festive gatherings.
