Paulig's Heir Ran a Red Light – Here's How Expensive It Was

Eduard Paulig, heir to the Paulig coffee dynasty, received hefty fines for running a red light in Espoo.

Eduard Paulig, a 63-year-old heir to the Paulig coffee family, has been fined for endangering traffic safety after running a red light in Espoo on December 4. The incident occurred at the intersection of Sinimäentie and Mankkaantie at around 6:45 AM when Paulig was driving alone with minimal traffic around him. According to the prosecutor, Paulig was 1-2 seconds away from the traffic lights when they turned red and could have safely stopped his vehicle.

The penalty for running the red light was set at 14 day-fines, which total 16,492 euros based on his reported income. This fine was calculated using data from the tax year 2024, which indicated that Paulig had an approximate income of nearly 940,000 euros, with over 675,000 euros coming from capital gains. Despite the seriousness of the offense, the road conditions were deemed suitable for driving, although the road was wet, and Paulig faced no other traffic at the time.

Iltalehti was unable to reach Paulig for a comment regarding the incident. This case shines a light on the responsibilities of individuals in positions of wealth and influence, demonstrating that no one is above the law, particularly when it comes to road safety. It serves as a reminder of the consequences one's actions can have, regardless of their social status or financial standing.
