Quito wakes up with dense fog this Thursday
A collision of cold and warm air resulted in increased fog across several areas of Quito on the morning of February 19.
On the morning of February 19, Quito experienced significantly dense fog due to a collision of cold and warm air masses. This atmospheric phenomenon was explained by Madelyn Enríquez, a technician from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inamhi), who noted that the warm air rises while the cold air remains at lower levels. Although the fog was more pronounced on this particular morning, it is expected to dissipate as the sun appears throughout the day.
According to Enríquez, the occurrence of fog during this season is common due to increased humidity associated with the rainy season. However, February 19 marked an unusual increase in fog density compared to usual conditions. The citizens might also feel a drop in temperature in the morning due to these atmospheric conditions, which are typical for this period of the year.
As the day progresses, the forecast predicts the possibility of afternoon rain and thunderstorms, which will be influenced by the sun's energy that can facilitate their development. The northern parts of Quito are particularly vulnerable to such weather changes when heightened rainfall occurs on the coast, suggesting a need for awareness and preparedness among residents.
