Buses are set on fire and vandalized on the second consecutive day of attacks in the southern zone of São Paulo

In São Paulo, four city buses were vandalized and set on fire during a series of attacks in the southern area, marking the second consecutive day of such incidents.

On the night of March 18, four municipal buses in São Paulo were targeted in a spate of attacks, marking a troubling pattern for public transportation in the southern part of the city. According to reports from SPTrans and the Municipal Urban Mobility and Transport Secretariat (SMT), two buses were ambushed on Avenida Yervant Kissajikian in the Americanópolis neighborhood. The assailants ordered all passengers and the driver to exit before igniting one bus, which was left completely destroyed, while another sustained partial damage. Firefighters responded promptly to the incident.

Following the initial attack, the group continued their rampage by vandalizing two additional buses belonging to A2 Transportes also along the same avenue. These buses were on routes connecting Parque Primavera and Metrô Conceição. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the passengers or the bus driver during these assaults, but the increasing frequency of such violent acts raises serious concerns regarding public safety and the reliability of public transportation in the city.

Authorities are investigating the motives behind these attacks and are working to enhance security measures for public transport in São Paulo. The city's transport system has faced various challenges in recent years, and the recent incidents underscore the need for urgent interventions to ensure the safety of commuters and protect public assets from further acts of violence.
