Group sets bus on fire on Guarapiranga Avenue, in the south zone of SP

A bus in São Paulo was set on fire by a group of men after forcing the driver to abandon the vehicle.

On Tuesday night (17), a bus belonging to the 7016/10 Jardim Ângela–Terminal Santo Amaro line was the target of a criminal attack in the south zone of São Paulo, specifically on Guarapiranga Avenue. The attack occurred around 11:30 PM, where the bus, operated by Metrópole, was intercepted by a group of men who forced the driver to exit the vehicle. Following this, the perpetrators set the bus ablaze, destroying not just the vehicle but also the driver's personal belongings left inside, including documents and a cellphone.

The São Paulo State Public Security Secretary (SSP) and SPTrans, the city's public transport authority, received reports of the incident. The driver reported the unfolding of the events to the police, who arrived on the scene to gather information. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries from the incident. The fire department was called to extinguish the flames, while local police initiated an investigation into the crime, marking the incident with a record of fire and theft at the local police station.

As investigations continue, the technical examination at the scene aims to uncover more details about the perpetrators and the motive behind this alarming act of vandalism. The incident raises concerns over public safety in the area and highlights the ongoing challenges faced by public transport systems in urban Brazil, particularly regarding security and the protection of passengers and transit operators.
