Clara Brugada leads the first metropolitan drill; CDMX and Edomex coordinate response to 7.2 magnitude earthquake

Clara Brugada coordinated the First Metropolitan Drill to enhance emergency response in CDMX and Edomex after a simulated 7.2 magnitude earthquake.

The Head of Government, Clara Brugada Molina, oversaw the commencement of the First Metropolitan Drill 2026, a large-scale preventive exercise that marks the first coordinated efforts between Mexico City and the State of Mexico to strengthen responses to natural disasters that ignore administrative borders. This initiative demonstrates the collaborative spirit of both governments in preparing for potential earthquakes that could have widespread ramifications.

At precisely 11:00 AM, the earthquake alert was activated through speakers across the capital and simultaneously through citizens' mobile devices. Under the scenario of a 7.2 magnitude earthquake centered in the state of Oaxaca, the capital's government initiated emergency protocols led by the Secretariat for Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection, the Heroic Fire Department, and the Command, Control, Computing, Communications and Citizen Contact Center (C5). This timely action underscores the importance of preparedness in a region that is vulnerable to seismic activity.

Furthermore, Security Secretary Pablo Vázquez Camacho reported that subsequent to the alert activation, the corresponding security protocol was deployed. This drill not only tests the effectiveness of the emergency response but also fosters cooperation between different governmental entities, establishing a unified approach to disaster management as communities in both valleys prepare for an inevitable seismic event, thereby enhancing public safety.
