Clara Brugada leads the first metropolitan drill; CDMX and Edomex coordinate response to earthquakes
Clara Brugada supervised the first large-scale metropolitan drill, an initiative to enhance emergency response coordination between Mexico City and the State of Mexico for natural disasters.
Clara Brugada, the Head of Government of Mexico City, oversaw the commencement of the First Metropolitan Drill 2026, a significant preventive exercise aimed at improving institutional coordination between Mexico City and the State of Mexico. This initiative is particularly important as it marks the first time both entities have collaborated to strengthen their emergency response frameworks for natural disasters, which often do not adhere to administrative boundaries.
The drill was set into motion at 11:00 AM when the earthquake alert was triggered across the capital's loudspeakers and simultaneously on citizens' mobile devices. The scenario simulated a 7.2 magnitude earthquake centered in the state of Oaxaca. Following the alert, the government activated emergency protocols managed by the Secretariat of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection, the Heroic Fire Department, and the Citizen Contact Command, Control, Computing, and Communications Center (C5).
Pablo Vázquez Camacho, the Secretary of Citizen Security, reported that once the alert was activated, all security protocols were deployed accordingly. This extensive preparation aims to ensure public safety and effective response strategies during actual seismic events, highlighting a proactive governmental approach to disaster preparedness.
