Olympic Bunnies: We tried to relieve some competition pressure from the athletes

Estonian cultural figures dressed as Olympic bunnies aimed to bring joy and reduce competition stress for athletes during the Olympic Games in Italy.

During the Winter Olympics in Italy, Estonian cultural figures dressed as 'Olympic Bunnies' sought to bring a smile to athletes and alleviate some of the pressure they experience. Tarmo Oras, one of the costumed figures, noted that they were recognized and even interviewed by prestigious media organizations like the Washington Post. Their presence was aimed at creating a light-hearted atmosphere and fostering national pride among the athletes and spectators.

Oras explained the underlying philosophy of their antics, emphasizing the importance of humor and visual chaos as a means of energizing people. He mentioned that his aunt Reet lives by the principle of not playing unless there's fun involved, which reflects his own approach to the event. The intention was to create a more relaxed environment for athletes and to inspire other nations to cheer for Estonia.

Rainer Rannala, another participant, was surprised by the unexpected requirement to wear the bunny costume, recalling how the costume was revealed just before the event. Despite the initial shock, he embraced the idea and participated, highlighting the unpredictable nature of such cultural representations during significant international events like the Olympics.
