A truck carrying coal overturned on Wednesday, February 18, on the BR-222 highway in Santa Luzia, leading to extensive traffic jams in both directions. The incident happened near the Ferro Velho village, coinciding with a high volume of vehicles returning from the Carnival holiday. Fortunately, according to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), there were no injuries reported during this incident.

The truck overturned across the roadway, causing its coal load to spill over, which resulted in significant delays and long queues as traffic was obstructed. The PRF was present to manage the situation and assist with the removal of the overturned truck and the coal spillage from the road. They coordinated the efforts to clear the road, which allowed for normal traffic flow to resume once the debris was cleared.

The authorities are currently investigating the causes of the accident further. As traffic patterns shifted significantly due to the holiday, this incident highlights the challenges faced on Brazilian highways, especially during peak travel times like Carnival when roadways are particularly crowded with returning holiday travelers.
