Governor Alex Otti of Abia State launched the Nchedo Sexual Assault Referral Centre at Aba General Hospital as part of efforts to strengthen the state's initiatives against gender-based violence. This centre symbolizes a crucial step in enhancing the justice and social protection framework in Abia, fostering collaborations among the government, development partners, and civil society to tackle such societal issues.

During the commissioning ceremony, Otti emphasized his administration's determination to eradicate gender-based violence, describing acts like sexual violence and child molestation as alien to societal values. He called for community reorientation and shared responsibility to eliminate these crimes, highlighting the urgency of building a culture that regards such behaviours as unacceptable.

Otti's remarks suggest a long-term vision where intervention centres are no longer necessary, indicating a hope for comprehensive cultural change. By establishing the Nchedo Centre, the governor aims to provide victims with the necessary support and resources while sending a strong message about the government's commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and promoting justice in Abia State.
