The pressure on Ilves' teammate: I did not want to let Kristjan down

Estonian ski jumper Ruubert Teder reflects on the challenges faced during the Olympic mixed team sprint event, emphasizing his desire not to disappoint his teammate Kristjan Ilves.

Estonian ski jumper Ruubert Teder spoke about the immense pressure he felt during the Olympic mixed team sprint event in Milano Cortina, particularly in light of the unexpected challenges posed by harsh weather conditions. Competing on the Predazzo mountain, the heavy snowfall affected the athletes' speed and landing, leading to underwhelming performances despite all competitors remaining safe. Teder himself experienced difficulties, achieving only 100 meters on the HS141 hill, which he attributed to the tough circumstances and his own performance.

In a candid interview broadcasted live on ETV, Teder expressed his disappointment and recognition of the challenges that came with Olympic competition. He emphasized his primary concern was not to disappoint his teammate Kristjan Ilves, as they faced the competition together. Discussing the difficult landing conditions, Teder noted the risks involved and referred to previous experiences in similar weather but acknowledged the intensity of this particular challenge.

Ilves, who is 13 years older than Teder, provided support for his younger teammate. He managed to deliver an outstanding jump of 127 meters, helping the Estonian team improve significantly and finish tenth among 14 competing teams. Teder's focus now shifts towards the upcoming ski race, where he hopes to maintain a positive attitude despite the setbacks during the jumping event, indicating a resilient spirit in face of Olympic pressure.
