Former Minister Im Dong-won and Two Others Awarded 'Proud Pyongan Award'
Three individuals were selected to receive the 'Proud Pyongan Award' for their contributions, including former Minister Im Dong-won.
The Administrative Safety Ministry of North Pyongan Province, led by governor Lee Se-woong, announced the recipients of the second annual 'Proud Pyongan Award'. This award aims to recognize individuals of North Pyongan heritage who have made significant contributions to society, particularly in fields such as government, business, and community development. The recipients this year are Im Dong-won, the former Minister of Unification and a prominent figure from Wihong County, as well as Kim Hak-nam, chairman of Korea's East Sound Co., also a first-generation defector from Suncheon County, and Kim Young-jin, chairman of Handok Pharmaceutical, a second-generation defector from Uiju County.
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on the 25th of this month at the Peace Hall of the North Korean five provinces government office. The selection of awardees highlights the ongoing effort to honor and acknowledge the contributions of North Korean defectors in South Korea, emphasizing their resilience and achievements in adapting to a new society after resettling from the North.
This recognition is significant not only for the recipients but also for the broader community of defectors, as it reinforces their identity and status within South Korean society. It reflects a growing acknowledgment and appreciation for the experiences and contributions of North Korean defectors, helping to bridge gaps of understanding between different generations and backgrounds.
