USJ raises wages of full-time employees by 6.5% to further promote employee investment

Universal Studios Japan (USJ) has announced a 6.5% wage increase for approximately 3,600 full-time employees, effective March 1, along with a uniform hourly wage increase for part-time staff.

Universal Studios Japan (USJ), located in Osaka, has made a significant announcement regarding wage increases for its employees. Starting March 1, the theme park will raise the average salaries of about 3,600 full-time employees by 6.5%. This marks the second wage increase announcement since a previous 6.0% increase in February 2023. Additionally, the wage for around 12,000 part-time and temporary employees will also see a uniform increase of 70 yen, raising their hourly rates to between 1,330 to 1,660 yen.

The announcement comes as USJ prepares to celebrate its 25th anniversary on March 31. The management has declared its commitment to creating an inclusive workplace that attracts diverse talent. This includes targeting potential employees from various backgrounds, such as mid-career and older workers, as well as foreign applicants. USJ's goal is to enhance its reputation as a preferred employer and promote comprehensive investment into its workforce.

In light of the ongoing economic challenges and labor shortages, USJ's proactive approach to employee compensation reflects an effort to improve staff satisfaction and retention. By increasing wages and expanding their hiring practices, the company seeks not only to boost morale but also to ensure they remain competitive in the global theme park market, especially as they gear up for their milestone anniversary.
