Jeremia, 40, lived with his girlfriend's corpse for a month - this is the killer's sentence
A Finnish court has sentenced Jeremia Jesse Andreas Tenkula to 10 years and 4 months in prison for the manslaughter of his girlfriend, after evidence showed he lived with her body for a month following her death.
The Rovaniemi Court of Appeal has upheld a previous ruling and sentenced Jeremia Jesse Andreas Tenkula to 10 years and 4 months in prison for the manslaughter of his girlfriend, Jaana, in Ylivieska in 2022. In addition, the court increased the compensation for suffering paid to the victim's child from €10,000 to €15,000. However, the court dismissed the charge of disturbing a grave, as they ruled that Tenkula had not handled the body, although he had failed to report the murder to the police.
Tenkula's conviction stems from an incident on May 24, 2022, when neighbors called the police due to loud arguing from his residence. At that time, the police did not enter the apartment but accepted Tenkula's assertion that Jaana was simply away. It was later discovered that Jaana was deceased and had been left in the apartment for an extended period, raising serious questions about the circumstances surrounding her death.
The case has drawn significant attention in Finland due to its macabre details and the implications of how domestic disputes are handled by authorities. The sentence reflects the court's acknowledgment of the severity of the crime and the psychological trauma inflicted on the victim's family, particularly the child who was directly impacted by the loss of their mother and the circumstances related to her death.
