Cristiano Jahel Leal, a 36-year-old man, has been sentenced to 36 years and two months in prison after being convicted of murdering his 23-year-old girlfriend, Brena Moreira Franca. The brutal crime occurred in December 2024, in Esmeraldas, part of the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte, where Leal left Franca's body alongside the BR-040 highway. During the trial on February 5, 2024, Leal was found guilty of feminicide, concealment of a corpse, and drunk driving, marking a serious conviction in a case that has drawn considerable attention.
