Movement in France to Boycott Israeli Dates and Expose Attempts to Conceal Their Source

A French association has urged consumers to boycott Israeli dates sold in France, highlighting misleading marketing practices regarding their origin.

As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, the 'Euro-Palestine' association based in France has initiated a campaign to boycott Israeli dates available in French markets. They warn consumers against falling for deceptive commercial practices employed by Israeli companies that aim to circumvent growing public boycott movements. The association argues that a significant portion of the 'Medjool' dates currently on offer in French stores originates from illegal Israeli settlements or through collaborators with the occupation, who systematically mislead consumers by concealing the true source of these products.

Olivia Zemor, the president of Euro-Palestine, shared her concerns in a statement to Anadolu Agency, emphasizing that French and European laws require sellers to disclose the production country clearly and transparently. She pointed out that these regulations do not permit the use of the term 'Israel' for products coming from the territories occupied since 1967. This legal framework aims to protect consumers and offer them truthful information, which the association claims is being violated by the misleading labeling of goods.

Zemor asserted that boycotting these products could adversely impact the Israeli economy, noting that some multinational food companies are also targeted in these boycott efforts. With increasing consumer awareness and legal obligations, the campaign reflects a larger movement advocating for ethical consumption practices, especially concerning products linked to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.
