Inmet maintains orange alert for storm in SP this Thursday (19)
The National Institute of Meteorology in Brazil has issued an orange alert for storms expected in the São Paulo metropolitan region due to unstable weather conditions, which may include heavy rainfall and high winds.
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has maintained an orange alert for storms in São Paulo this Thursday, February 19, despite a relatively calm Wednesday of Ashes. There were some instances of storms in various municipalities throughout the state, supporting the institute's predictions. The alert remains in effect until the morning of Friday, February 20.
The instability in weather is attributed to the arrival of a cold front along the coast of São Paulo, combined with existing humidity and heat in the region. Inmet predicts rainfall rates between 30 and 60 millimeters per hour or 50 to 100 millimeters per day, coupled with wind speeds reaching between 60 to 100 km/h. These conditions pose significant risks, including power outages, falling branches, flooding, and electrical discharges.
Climatempo's forecasts indicate that in the capital, there may be light rain in the early morning and throughout the morning, transitioning to partly sunny skies. However, by the afternoon, moderate rain is likely, which may lead to flooding in some areas. The weather conditions highlight the need for residents to stay informed and take precautions, especially given the potential for severe weather impacts.
