Oh Se-hoon urges 'cutting ties with Yoon' after life sentence for former president Yoon Seok-yeol

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon calls on the People Power Party to cut ties with former President Yoon Seok-yeol following his life sentence for leading a coup attempt.

After the Seoul Central District Court sentenced former President Yoon Seok-yeol to life imprisonment for his role as a leader in a coup attempt, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon urged the People Power Party (PPP) to 'cut ties with Yoon.' In a statement on his Facebook on the 19th, Oh expressed his deep regret as a member of the party that produced the president, apologizing to the public for the turmoil caused by the emergency martial law.

He emphasized the need for genuine repentance and reflection within the PPP, suggesting that if the party is sincere, it might alleviate the disappointment and anger of the citizens. Oh countered concerns within the party that cutting ties might lead to division, arguing instead that it is a necessary process for healing and rejuvenation within conservative politics. He characterized this 'cutting ties' or 'jeol-yun' as an unavoidable path for the party's future.

Looking ahead, Oh made it clear that he has a responsibility to help reshape the party and lead it towards a new conservative path in the upcoming local elections, alongside competent candidates working in Seoul and the metropolitan area. He stated the urgency of this transformation, promising to navigate through any challenges to ensure the party can stand before the public with integrity.
