Police find illegal alcohol and ammunition in Preili municipality

Police in Preili municipality discovered a significant quantity of illegal alcohol and ammunition during a raid.

In Preili municipality, Latvia, police have uncovered a substantial cache of illegal alcohol and ammunition. The operation stemmed from a criminal process initiated in January based on suspicions that a man born in 1977 was manufacturing and storing illegal alcoholic beverages in significant quantities. Using intelligence gathered, police executed a sanctioned search warrant on February 12 in the Rūšona parish, leading to this significant bust.

During the search, law enforcement officials found and confiscated fourteen .16 caliber cartridges, three air rifles, 124 contraband cigarettes, and a large quantity of illegally produced alcoholic beverages. The haul included 17 liters of 'kandža' (a type of homemade liquor), 60 liters of 'brāga' (a fermented beverage), and 20 liters of homemade wine, reflecting a considerable operation aimed at circumventing legal alcohol regulations.

This discovery raises concerns about the illegal alcohol trade within the region and highlights ongoing issues related to unregulated production and distribution of alcohol in Latvia. It emphasizes the police's commitment to combatting such illicit activities and ensuring the safety and legality of alcohol consumption in the community. The findings from the raid could lead to further investigations and potential arrests as authorities work to dismantle illegal operations like this one.
