Savings up to 200,000 euros. Gas will also be cheaper
The Italian government is enacting a decree aimed at reducing energy costs for businesses, with potential savings reaching up to 200,000 euros depending on company size.
The recent Italian government decree focuses on significant changes in the energy pricing system aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Italian companies. According to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the benefits of this measure can reach between 500 to 200,000 euros, tailored to the size of the enterprises. In relation to electricity, the decree proposes a reduction in the Asos component, which covers costs associated with supporting renewable energy for non-domestic consumers across various voltage levels, while excluding public lighting and special regimes.
As for gas supply, the government plans to cut transportation and distribution fees for industrial businesses and large consumers from April 1, 2023, until December 31, 2026. This financial initiative is backed by the sale of gas that had been stored during the energy crisis, thereby ensuring financial coverage for the proposed reductions in costs. The aim is to lighten the financial burden on these consumers, allowing them more room to operate competitively in the market.
Additionally, the decree aims to stabilize pricing by enhancing the platform of the Gse for long-term renewable energy purchase contracts (PPA). This move is expected to facilitate small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in accessing more affordable energy supplies, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable and economically viable energy framework for Italy. The strategic steps outlined in this decree reflect the government's broader objective of maintaining energy affordability while supporting the growth of Italian businesses during challenging economic circumstances.
